Bastion
Bastion is a feudal-esque society. The difference from a traditional feudal society is that control of the various fiefdoms is contested at a tournament that occurs every eight years. The tournament (no magic allowed) consists of jousting competitions, archery competitions, and a grand melee amongst other events and revelry. The whole event lasts a couple of weeks. The families choose their controlled territory for the next eight years based on their standing in the tournament. The last tournament concluded seven years ago, and preparations have recently begun for the next one, as it is only a year away and there is much setup involved.
Noble Families of Bastion 1
Dupont Family
Duke Lionel Dupont is the patriarch of the family and the current leader of Bastion. He is a tall, imposing Orcish fellow and his wife Pauline is a beautiful elven woman. Their half-orc half-elven progeny are all extremely talented and well-trained. The other noble families suspect that they cheated in the last tournament in order to win it, but none of them have been able to obtain any proof. As Duke of Bastion, Lionel is allowed to collect a piece of all of the other family's business. He governs any city-wide decisions and has final responsibility over the defense of Bastion.
Belmont Family
Count Charles Belmont is the patriarch of this human family and is joined by his wife Sylvie and four sons. Their territory encompasses the markets of Bastion and the surrounding residences. Prior to the last tournament the Belmonts were a lesser family, presiding over a simple Barony. Their current position is the third most desirable after the Dukedom and the river port. Charles has been training his sons (besides Theodore) incredibly hard, with confidence that they will take victory in the next tournament.
Jullien Family
Count Yvonne Jullien is the matriarch of the family. She and her husband Cyril are both large, muscular Goliaths and they have the largest number of children among the noble families. Their success in the tournament relies on entering many of their family members and hoping one of them comes out on top. They finished second in the last tournament and their territory currently consists of the river port of Bastion. This position allows them to control commerce along the waterways of eastern Viddeon and has allowed them to accumulate considerable wealth this cycle.
Guillaume Family
Count Sebastien Guillaume is the patriarch of the family. Sebastien is a red dragonborn and his husband is a silver dragonborn. Their offspring are a mix of the two colors. They had the weakest showing of the major families at the last tournament, but they have had a few more offspring come of age and are considered a dark horse in the next tournament.
